Our History
Kenwood Sullivan, owner of Sullivan Plumbing Co. in Champaign, Illinois, planned a $1.2 million apartment and commercial building at Fifth and Park streets in 2011 to encourage local development.
The two-story structure is located at the southwest corner, across from Salem Baptist Church and near Bethel A.M.E. Church. Previously, the lot held a single-story building known for its mural, which had an African-American history theme
The main level will offer 4,400 square feet of leasable space for offices, while the second floor will feature four 1,100-square-foot apartments with two bedrooms and two bathrooms.
Sullivan plans to display photos of the mural, created in 1978 by local residents, in the lobby. Rev. Larry Lewis of Bethel A.M.E. Church fully supports the project, stating it enhances the neighborhood's appeal.
Bethel also aims to develop the Bridgewater-Sullivan Community Life Center, named for Erma Bridgewater and Kenwood Sullivan, over the next three years.
